Heartland Town Square Development Hits Roadblock

The Heartland Town Square, a massive 452 acre site proposed to redevelop the former Pilgrim State Psychiatric Center, would contain more than 9,000 residential units, 3.2 million square feet of office space and 1 million square feet of retail space, according to a project overview presented to the Town of Islip Town Board in March.

Agencies work to keep up with 40 percent growth in home health industry

Twelve home health aides cycle in and out of Angela Pittala’s Medford, NY apartment in any given week. Their shifts, timesheets and time-off requests are all managed by Pittala herself, which can be like a full-time job. Pittala, whose Cerebral Palsy leaves her confined to a wheelchair, hires her aides through the Consumer Directed Personal Assistant Program, a program that enables those in need of home health care to hire and fire their own help– including their own family and friends.

After earning $10M from NYS, Westbury looks to cash in on downtown boom

In Westbury, a Nassau County village, the local government was awarded $10 million in funding to revitalize their downtown last year, as part of an annual grant New York State initiative (called the Downtown Revitalization Initiative, or DRI) launched by Gov. Andrew Cuomo in 2016. The initiative is the largest public aid program for downtown growth toward Long Island in state history.
